Devil May Cry 4 360 demo downloaded one million times
Capcom has announced that as of Saturday, Feb. 9th, one million Xbox Live gold members have downloaded the DMC4 demo since it’s release on January 24th. That’s over 25,000 downloads per day, undoubtly impressing Capcom as they reported it on their official blog. Microsoft has informed Capcom that this is the first demo of 2008 to hit a million downloads, as well as one of the fastest demos to hit the million mark in the history of Xbox Live.
This is quite the feat, but all that matters right now is how many of these million plus demo players actually bought or will buy the game for the Xbox 360? It seems the demo may have had an impression on some UK players as DMC4 is the top selling game there. The Xbox 360 version accounted for 61% of total sales. However, Japanese sales figures are quite different as first day sales indicate that the PS3 version of DMC4 outsold the Xbox 360 version 5-1; with the PS3 version selling 140,000 and the Xbox 360 version selling 30,000. Not bad sales for Microsoft in Japan, but PS3 sale numbers are very good there and will continue to rise. Here in the United States, we don’t release weekly sales figures, only monthly, so we will have to wait until March to get February sales figures.
Considering February is not a strong month for game releases, it’s entirely possible that it will be the top selling game in America. Will it sell as many retail copies for the Xbox 360 during the month as it did demo downloads? Probably not. Did the demo help sway some people who were either on the edge or not interested in the game? Probably. Which is why we will continue to see demos for quite some time.

Microsoft claims sales doubled since price drop

Microsoft would like you to know that since dropping the price on the Xbox 360 (all three SKUs), that they have seen sales double. That’s right, two times the sales before the price drop. Of course, that’s hardly a coup with their last place sales as of late. Still, it’s a positive sign for a

If you’ve ever dared to delve into the darker nether-regions of geekdom known as AV message boards, then you know people can literally muster an argument over which is the best $500 HDMI cable. Yes, they’ll quote random studies here and there (usually “studies” coming from a magazine article trying to sell magazines), but they’ll
E3 2008: Microsoft press conference review

There was a time when E3 was a really, really big deal. Now, it’s simply a really big deal. One of the biggest factors of its whole big dealness comes from the console manufacturers’ press conferences. They typically range from the epic (introduction of the Wii) to the horribly, horribly wrong (introduction of the PS3
The future of "touch" games

Nintendo may catch lots of flack for bringing gaming to the casual market, but their methods have certainly not fallen on death ears. While the DS was far from the first touch-screen device, it was one of the first mass-market commercial ones. It has since been followed up by Apple’s iPhone and a slew of
Motorstorm: Pacific Rift is looking good at an early stage

The original Motorstorm was an oddly controversial title. Odd because who ever considers racing games controversial? Still, Sony managed to make it just that by over hyping and delivering a disappointing demo that wasn’t quite up to the finished product. Still, when all was said and done, those who played the game found a very

A funny thing happened to Resident Evil 5 on its way to release, it became the center of a growing race debate in video games. Of course, this is not shocking really. Not only is one of the few titles to feature a large group of black characters, but they also happen to be the

Here’s something that nobody really seemed to be asking for. What if there was a way to integrate the PS3 with the iPhone? That way, you would never have to put down your new gadget iPhone, even when playing with your new gadget PS3. Don’t ask and you shall receive. NetBlender is announcing that
Video of the day: Haze gameplay montage

Remember when Haze was coming to every system? Remember when Haze still had some hype left in it? It’s sad to say, but Haze has become one of those titles that the closer it gets to release, the less exciting it feels. This newest gameplay montage will likely do nothing to sway those opinions for
The best of 2008′s April Fool’s gaming jokes

Ever since EGM ran their infamous Simon Belmont in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles gag, the gaming world has been obsessed with April Fool’s Day. This has, sadly, led to many groan inducing jokes over the years, some of which can be credited to EGM (you can’t win them all). Still, each year brings the promise

Cheating is a splendid thing. It allows you to get ahead without any of the effort of those you hope to emulate. No wonder so many people do it. Microsoft, however, is not a fan. That’s why as of Tuesday, Microsoft struck back (yes, the evil empire struck back). Those who had been artificially inflating
