Lord of the Rings becoming next tired franchise

Files under News | Posted by Justin |

lord_of_the_rings_rotk.jpgBefore the announcement of the New Line Cinema films a few years back, the world had been treated to surprisingly few Lord of the Rings (LOTR) games. That all changed in a fury of releases-some good, mostly bad. Well, the powers that be seem incapable of letting a good franchise rest and developer Pandemic has a new title in the works.

There’s nothing wrong with LOTR games. It’s just that we’ve all been down this road before with a beloved franchise. Remember when Star Wars games were actually good with titles such as TIE Fighter and Super Star Wars? Now the simple announcement of Bioware returning to Star Wars is seen as a beacon of hope. Unfortunately, can LOTR characters being included in the next Tekken be too far off?

Pandemic is a talented studio and one hopes they get this franchise right. In truth the best new LOTR game is probably the online version, so any offline fun gameplay would be welcomed. In the meantime, one hopes this doesn’t delay Mercenaries 2 even more.
