Last week it was finally announced that Steven Spielberg would be working with EA to bring us Boom Blox for the Wii, a Jenga-esque puzzle game which will utilize the Wii-mote extensively. The game will feature single player, co-op, and versus modes through 300 levels as well as Create mode to edit any of the games levels using unlockable props and characters which can be shared over WiiConnect24.
In a press release on the EA website, Spielberg explained his reasoning behind wanting to break into the industry stating: “I am a gamer myself, and I really wanted to create a video game that I could play with my kids. BOOM BLOX features an enormous amount of fun challenges and cool scenarios for your kids to solve or for you to master together.”
While Boom Blox doesn’t look like the kind of game you’d imagine Steven Spielberg to attach his name to it was originally announced in 2005 that he would work with EA to help create three new original properties through a multi-year collaboration. However, if Boom Blox is any indication as to what types of games the director of Raiders of the Lost Ark will be helming the gaming world might as well throw its hands up in a collective sigh.
Unfortunately, the verdict is still out on how Boom Blox actually plays but the hope is that the upcoming Game Developers Conference on February 18th will give gamers a chance to experience it first hand.
