Since the announcement of the Wii, many gamers have wondered about their favorite racer Mario Kart. It’s a given that Nintendo wouldn’t abandon a great franchise but would it be as great as you remembered? Announced at the 2007 E3 conference by Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo’s chief operating officer, the highly anticipated title will finally debut on the Wii console on April 15th, 2008.
The game will utilize the wheel controller which was first revealed at Nintendo’s 2007 E3 press conference and feature 16 new tracks, 16 remake tracks from previous Mario Kart titles, the ability to race as Miis, 10 stages for multiplayer battles and a choice between driving karts or bikes. Multiplayer will also feature 12 racers through online play where you can take part in tournaments, download time-trial ghosts of other players, and check who’s number one on the leader board.
The major concern on fans’ minds has been how the game would control with the steering wheel peripheral. The Wiimote fits snugly into the docking station and while at first it may take some getting used to, you’ll feel right at home in no time.
While the release is still a couple months away, now would be a perfect time to start up your Wii, download Mario Kart 64 for your virtual console and show your friends how one well placed koopa shell can be all you need to win a race.
