The King of Kong aftermath; from conspiracy theories to the big screen

Files under News | Posted by Justin |

donkey_kong.jpgFans of the documentary will tell you that it was not only one of the best documentaries of last year, but one of the best films period. Viewers became so engrossed in the story that it has led many to want to follow the continuing storyline as it develops. Don’t count on a sequel, though, as director Seth Gordon says film villain Billy Mitchell is none too pleased with the finished film.

Among other things that Gordon reveals to The Age, he states that Mitchell feels like the film portrays him unfairly. Apparently Mitchell has been contacting journalists covering the film wanting to give his own perspective on the events chronicled in the film. That doesn’t sound at all like the conniving control freak portrayed in the movie, does it?

Additionally, Gordon states that he is currently in early work on a dramatized film version of the story. So, who would play Billy? Johnny Depp would be his first choice. Gordon might get to work with Depp eventually even if the dramatized film version doesn’t work out. He is currently directing the Vince Vaughn film Four Christmases.

    Hi,
as I sensed some sarcasm in your post, I thought you might want to check out Jason Scott’s comment on that documentary, http://ascii.textfiles.com/archives/000574.html
Apparently, he’s not too pleased with it either and he’s a ‘neutral party’; this quote probably sums it up nicely (he goes into a lot of details), “Too bad it’s loaded with falsehoods.”

Unfortunately, it is hard to describe Jason as a completely neutral party, as even in the post you linked to he complains about the film shutting doors for him. I have read a subsequent post from him which is supposed to be about Kong and ends up being half about his documentary. Nothing against his film, I am sure it is fine, but it sort of ruins his credibility the way he writes about it all. That all being said, I am sure Kong is less than 100% accurate.

Jason Bateman or Tim Heidecker(from Adult Swim) as Steve Wiebe.
