Australia may change ban on adult games

australia.gifWhile banning game has been in the news a lot lately, this is a bit of counter news to all of that. Apparently, Australia is considering revising its game classification system. What does this mean for Aussie gamers? Grand Theft Auto 4 may come easier than expected.

At present, the highest rating in Australia is M15+. The proposal would add an R18 rating. One person backing the change is New Zealand’s chief censor Bill Hastings. He said it was “high time” that Australia followed New Zealand and added such a rating. “In the past, for some reason, Australia has not acknowledged that adults play video games - they just hear the word game and think of kids,” Hastings added.

Is the world starting to recognize games as more than just kids’ stuff? Perhaps. This, however, is just further evidence of just how invaluable the game has been in America. While M rated games may be in a decline, and A rated games have never really taken off, games have a achieved a more respectable position ever since the introduction of the . It was the normalizing factor for games in the face of motion pictures.

    About time, now our aussie buddies wont have to pay three times as much for a dumbed down, kiddie version of gta 4.

    Now if we could only do something about them still HAVING to pay three times as much for it, even if it is the true version.
