Resident Evil 5 footage is scary beautiful
After the successful rebirth of the Resident Evil franchise in Resident Evil 4, can anything truly wow as much? Better graphics alone won’t do it, right? Well, not so fast. The latest footage from Resident Evil 5 now only wows, but it shows a refinement of the franchise, even if it is just in degrees.
The striking thing about the footage is the animation. Note the one character pushing another back into a building. It’s a small detail, but it looks convincingly real in a way the series never has. Resident Evil was always about stiff, tank-like characters, and this shows a breaking free of that.
What remains to be seen is whether any moment in this title can live up to the early scene in Resident Evil 4 when the entire village attacks you. There are few gaming moments quite as gripping, or quite as scary. One new moment like that makes the game an instant buy.
