The Wii is getting some new Virtual Console games. “Alright!” cry the fanboys, who run to their Wii. Will it be some-school SNES or N64 games? Nope. How about some rare Sega Genesis games to hold us over until Mario Kart? Nope. The new Virtual Console games are going to be Sega Master System games.

Most don’t remember the Master System as it was Sega’s first attempt at a home console, in 1986. Graphically superior and more powerful then the NES it sold well in Europe and South America, but sold poorly in North America and Japan, due to Nintendo’s hold on the market.

These VC Sega Master System games will be cheaper than the NES games, they will be 400 points while NES games remain at 500, and right away gamers will get a piece of history. Two of the first games planned for release will be two of the best games–Wonder Boy and Fantasy Zone. Finally gamers who never experience the Sega Master System when it was popular get to understand what an “Opa-opa” is, and why it keeps popping up in Sega games.

An Opa-opa was the space ship gamers controlled in the Fantasy Zone arcade games, later ported to the Sega Master System and now it will be on the Wii. Hopefully Nintendo brings a few more of these games besides these two, some of the older Sonic games would be ideal.
