The best of 2008′s April Fool’s gaming jokes
Ever since EGM ran their infamous Simon Belmont in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles gag, the gaming world has been obsessed with April Fool’s Day. This has, sadly, led to many groan inducing jokes over the years, some of which can be credited to EGM (you can’t win them all). Still, each year brings the promise of some actually good jokes and this year has delivered.
Zelda movie trailer
This gem from IGN is not your traditional gag. The video looks stunningly plausible. Sure, it doesn’t look quite like a major Hollywood film, but does anyone expect that of video game movies these days? It certainly looks equal to the Dungeon Siege film, at the very least. Highly entertaining and just a little disappointing when you consider what could have been. This trailer will likely be showing up for months and even years to come.
Assassin’s Creed 2 set in war zone
After the controversy surrounding a nasty comic about Assassin’s Creed developer Jade Raymond, it is good to see she still has a sense of humor. It’s even funnier to see two titan companies of gaming, Ubisoft and Konami, team up for a bit of fun with one another. Still, doesn’t it seem like Snake has been moonlighting in a lot of different franchises lately? Metal Gear Solid 4 can’t come soon enough so he can finally get back to his day job.
Xbox 360 introduces four new products, including virtual reality helmet
These weren’t nearly as good as the previous two, but still, you have to give Microsoft some credit for trying. They hyped the introduction of a new virtual reality helmet, Xbox Live: The Board Game, a Recon Edition of the Xbox 360 that can be taken anywhere, and the fanboy-pandering Xbox 360: Vintage Edition that has an oak case and controllers out of the Atari era. Cute, and a nice attempt, but just one of these taken to the extreme would have been more entertaining.
World of Warcraft introduces Bard Hero Class
How do you legally obtain a license to print money? Combine the addictiveness of World of Warcraft with the casual play of Guitar Hero. You have an instant classic in the making. No, there really isn’t a Bard Hero Class in the works for World of Warcraft, but can a Guitar Hero MMO be too far off? Maybe not, but it’s likely that Rock Band will beat them to the punch. See the image at the top of this story.

Top ten games of 2008

10) Spore No, it did not live up to its billing. Yes, it is still an incredibly fun game. But more than being a sim game, Spore echoes many titles on this year’s top ten list by being a creation engine. Half the fun of the title can be had from creating different creatures, homes,
Microsoft claims sales doubled since price drop
about 1 year ago - View Comments
Microsoft would like you to know that since dropping the price on the Xbox 360 (all three SKUs), that they have seen sales double. That’s right, two times the sales before the price drop. Of course, that’s hardly a coup with their last place sales as of late. Still, it’s a positive sign for a

Sure, a lot of the mistrust between gamers and non-gamers comes from simple miscommunication, but that doesn’t mean some points aren’t valid. Below are 25 popular (and not so popular) reasons why gamers annoy those who don’t play games. 1. Halo is not a sport. That’s great that you’re really into playing online games, but they’re
E3 2008: Microsoft press conference review
about 2 years ago - View Comments
There was a time when E3 was a really, really big deal. Now, it’s simply a really big deal. One of the biggest factors of its whole big dealness comes from the console manufacturers’ press conferences. They typically range from the epic (introduction of the Wii) to the horribly, horribly wrong (introduction of the PS3
Guitar Hero 4 to feature a create a song feature
about 2 years ago - View Comments
Early hype has been that Guitar Hero 4 would “revolutionize” music games with an incredible new feature. Are they going to add a keyboard? How about a kazoo? No, sadly not. Instead, the revolutionary new feature is “create a song.” That’s the word from Game Informer magazine (or at least the word from sources who
Earth Day: Five games that kill the environment
about 2 years ago - View Comments
What goes better with playing video games than poisoning the environment for future generations? Perhaps melting the polar icecaps? Clubbing baby seals? Okay, that last one went a bit far. Still, the point is that video games can be very bad for the environment. Take the following five games for instance. Each is addictive to
Video game currencies converted to dollar value
about 2 years ago - Comments Off
Exactly how much is a rupee in The Legend of Zelda? Apparently $3 in US currency. How is this useful or practical to anyone? It isn’t, of course. In an article that only a nerd could love, Maxim has taken seven video game currencies and converted them to US dollars. While the concept is interesting,
Guitar Hero: Aerosmith gets a trailer
about 2 years ago - Comments Off
There isn’t a whole lot that can be said for the new Guitar Hero: Aerosmith expansion. The name basically explains it all. However, it does feel a bit like the Guitar Hero is just gouging fans when Rock Band allows for so much downloadable content without having to purchase entirely new games at full price.

Those are funny. You can usually catch the EGM ones these days. They did some sort of deodorant axe like spray two years ago that was pretty funny.
