Whatever happened to the gay gaming star?
Jul 28th
Where is the gay video game star? Sure, there have been minor dalliances here and there, but where is the certifiable gay gaming star? It may not seem like a big issue, and perhaps in the grand scheme of things it is not. However, as other minority groups begin to pop up as game stars more often, it does seem that homosexuals are one group left out in the cold, so to speak.

The big fat problem that Fat Princess exposes
Jul 24th
You have likely read by now that some female gamers are quite upset over the Sony title Fat Princess. In the game players control a princess whom they must feed to make her fat enough that she can’t be caught. Yes, it is far from the Shakespeare of games. However, the notably crude game concept has offended some, and they’re being vocal about it.
Two different blogs run by female gamers have voiced their concern and upset over the game, but that isn’t the real issue here. You see, whether the game is in bad taste or not, the bigger issue exposed has been from the reaction both blog posts have received. In a move very reminiscent to the uproars over sexism toward Jade Raymond and racism in the Resident Evil 5 trailer, gamers have exposed quite a bit about their general attitudes.
Madden 09 goes all Tron on you this season
Jul 22nd
The Madden Football games get a bum rap. From one perspective, they’re incredibly detailed, enjoyable football games. On the other hand, they hold a monopoly on NFL licensed titles and are therefore going to get labeled as “cheap” whether they are or not. Still, some innovations in game design make better arguments for one side over the other.
Sonic Unleashed gets a little hairy and viral
Jul 16th
Sonic Unleashed is the last glimmer of hope among many Sonic fans that the little blue Hedgehog might finally get one last decent console game. It’s been a while since Sonic Adventure 2, and even that was a step down from the original Sonic Adventure. The above trailer appears to be part of a semi-viral advertising campaign for the little blue fellow. It’s clever, but it might have worked better before other trailers were released revealing the game’s “twist.”
E3 2008: Sony press conference review
Jul 15th
There was a time when E3 was a really, really big deal. Now, it’s simply a really big deal. One of the biggest factors of its whole big dealness comes from the console manufacturers’ press conferences. They typically range from the epic (introduction of the Wii) to the horribly, horribly wrong (introduction of the PS3 and real-time weapon changing). So how did this year go for Sony?

Cardboard dreams for the Halo 3 Kid
Jul 12th
File this one under bizarre, but this young man has suddenly put some impressive work into his hobby. The video showcases a young man who has essentially recreated all of Halo’s weaponry from cardboard. Sure, that isn’t as impressive as some models, but considering the time and effort spent by someone so young, this is well worth seeing. When you see him pull out the machine gun turret, that’s when you know this kid is truly cool.
