Killzone 2 finally getting it right

Files under News, PS3 | Leave a Comment

Killzone 2 has certainly wowed gamers before.  From the original “target” trailer to the later “actual” trailer, the game has provided plenty of eye candy.  Of course, it has also provided plenty of controversy thanks to that “target” demo.  However, it appears Killzone 2’s critics may finally have to eat their crow.

Motorstorm: Pacific Rift is looking good at an early stage

Files under News, PS3 | Leave a Comment

The original Motorstorm was an oddly controversial title.  Odd because who ever considers racing games controversial?  Still, Sony managed to make it just that by over hyping and delivering a disappointing demo that wasn’t quite up to the finished product.

Sure, LucasArts continues to taunt long time fans by not releasing a new title in the TIE Fighter series, but The Force Unleashed is looking to be a nice peace offering.  The physics heavy Jedi-powered action title is shaping up to be one of the major titles of this year, if early looks are any indication.  And now, it finally has a release date.

Video of the day: Haze gameplay montage

Files under News, PS3 | 1 Comment

Remember when Haze was coming to every system?  Remember when Haze still had some hype left in it?  It’s sad to say, but Haze has become one of those titles that the closer it gets to release, the less exciting it feels.  This newest gameplay montage will likely do nothing to sway those opinions for most, either.  It looks enjoyable, but not quite like something that will pull gamers away from better multiplayer experiences, such as Call of Duty 4.

PlayStation Store redesign revealed and dated

psn_store_redesign

If you simply cannot stand the current PlayStation Store, then April is your month.  Sony has announced that the store will get its new redesign sometime in the middle of the month.  In the meantime, content updates will cease April 3 until the new design launches.

The current store actually isn’t too bad, and a definite improvement over Xbox Live Marketplace in many regards.  This new look is again clean and simple.  Still, both systems leave a bit to be desired.  It can still be difficult on both systems to find content, something Xbox Live Arcade publishers have complained about.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith gets a trailer

Files under News, PS3, Wii, Xbox 360 | Leave a Comment

There isn’t a whole lot that can be said for the new Guitar Hero: Aerosmith expansion.  The name basically explains it all.  However, it does feel a bit like the Guitar Hero is just gouging fans when Rock Band allows for so much downloadable content without having to purchase entirely new games at full price.  Perhaps some people just really, really want a digital Steven Tyler?  Perhaps those same people really, really liked Revolution X.

After the successful rebirth of the Resident Evil franchise in Resident Evil 4, can anything truly wow as much?  Better graphics alone won’t do it, right?  Well, not so fast.  The latest footage from Resident Evil 5 now only wows, but it shows a refinement of the franchise, even if it is just in degrees.

Wii shortages to continue while PS3 and Xbox 360 get price drops

Files under News, PS3, Wii, Xbox 360 | Leave a Comment

gamestop.gifGameStop, that bastion of used-game goodness, recently revealed some fairly expected news for gamers. In an investor conference call, GameStop executives revealed that Wii shortages will likely last the next six months, while both the Xbox 360 and PS3 look headed for $50 price drops.

Executives stressed that the price cuts were not official but simply their speculation. They also happened to speculate about a $30 price cut on the PS2. None of this is too surprising, as people have been expecting such a cut on the PS2 for nearly a year now. The Xbox 360 and PS3 price cuts would go a long way toward getting both closer to a mass market price of $200-250. (more…)

Haze goes PS3 exclusive forever

Files under News, PS3 | 1 Comment

Free Radical and Ubisoft have apparently finally let it be known that Haze is no longer a timed exclusive for the PS3. In fact, it’s just a flat out exclusive now. That’s right; the Xbox 360 and PC versions are apparently dead.

What is Haze, anyway? Well, it’s the first next-generation title developed b Free Radical, famous for the TimeSplitters series and Second Sight. Free Radical is better known to some as the refugees from Rare who once many moons ago helped develop Goldeneye 007 for the Nintendo 64. Haze is scheduled for release in May. (more…)
