Video of the day: sadistic SimAnimals
Jan 10th
Electronic Arts just can’t get enough money out of The Sims, err, Sim City, err, whatever franchise. Witness more milking with the announcement of SimAnimals at CES 2009. The Sims with animals? Cute, right?
Wrong. The demonstration given of the title in this video has got to be one of the more sadistic demos ever for a kid’s game. Why is he shaking that bear? And then dumping it in a river? Then he steals a fawn and attempts to dump it in the same river? You truly have to wonder about the marketing people at Electronic Arts. Have they just been worked too hard?

E3 2008: Nintendo press conference review
Jul 15th
There was a time when E3 was a really, really big deal. Now, it’s simply a really big deal. One of the biggest factors of its whole big dealness comes from the console manufacturers’ press conferences. They typically range from the epic (introduction of the Wii) to the horribly, horribly wrong (introduction of the PS3 and real-time weapon changing). So how did this year go for Nintendo?

New this week on Wii Virtual Console
Apr 28th
No, this is not the Double Dragon game you are looking for. Yes, it is the one you remember as a kid on the NES and not the arcade version you wished it was at the time. More disappointing, however, is that it’s not the vastly superior Double Dragon II. Oh well, perhaps another day. Still, the original is a decent game, but with so many better brawlers out there, such as Double Dragon II and Final Fight, its fond memories are best left in the past.

How do you choose between two classic titles? One is very likely the ultimate beat-em-up of the 8-bit era, and the other is the least appealing of a classic RPG franchise. Oh wait–never mind. River City Ransom is the clear choice this week. The fact that a decent, comparable follow-up hasn’t made its way into the modern era is beyond belief for one of the NES’s true cult classics.
Wii gets even more compact with personal seven inch screen
Apr 17th
What does the diminutive Wii need more than anything? Not so fast with talk of a hard drive! No, what it really needs is its own personal seven inch screen. That way you can feel even more like a giant while playing it!
Chinavision has head your cries and delivered just such a product. The seven inch monitor is similar to those that have been released in the past for the PS2 and Xbox. It conveniently (at least in pictures) attaches to the system, features stereo speakers, auxiliary AV connectors, and 480×234 resolution.
The future of the Wii2 may already be showing

Johnny Lee is a nerd’s nerd. He wasn’t simply satisfied with owning the hard to find Wii. No, Mr. Lee wanted to make a cool little gaming system even cooler. And he succeeded. That’s a nerd’s nerd.
Specifically, Mr. Lee is behind the famous tech demo using a pair of glasses to make the Wii present actual 3D images using head tracking software. In turn, this technique will now be used in Electronic Arts Boom Blox title. Not too shabby Mr. Lee, but he wasn’t done there. A new tech demo shows off using the Wii as a virtual whiteboard, a use that Lee notes could save schools thousands of dollars. Again, not too shabby.
