10) Spore
No, it did not live up to its billing. Yes, it is still an incredibly fun game. But more than being a sim game, Spore echoes many titles on this year’s top ten list by being a creation engine. Half the fun of the title can be had from creating different creatures, homes, ships, etc. through an incredibly intuitive interface. Not what you wanted from the game? Perhaps not for you, but it hardly keeps it from being a good game, or in this case one of the best of the year.

If you’re a Wii owner, you may feel like you’re often an after thought to most third party developers. Not so for Electronic Arts, who has announced they currently have eight titles from their EA Sports franchises slated for the Wii. Eight EA Sports titles? Is it a blessing or a curse? (more…)

Last week it was finally announced that Steven Spielberg would be working with EA to bring us Boom Blox for the Wii, a Jenga-esque puzzle game which will utilize the Wii-mote extensively. The game will feature single player, co-op, and versus modes through 300 levels as well as Create mode to edit any of the games levels using unlockable props and characters which can be shared over WiiConnect24.
In a press release on the EA website, Spielberg explained his reasoning behind wanting to break into the industry stating: “I am a gamer myself, and I really wanted to create a video game that I could play with my kids. BOOM BLOX features an enormous amount of fun challenges and cool scenarios for your kids to solve or for you to master together.” (more…)
