Another year and another Castlevania title for one of Nintendo’s portable devices. There was a time, not too long ago, when Castlevania releases were several years apart. Ever since the series shifted its main focus to Nintendo’s portables, however, the series seems to churn out at least one game a year. This can be both good and bad.
The last useless lessons feature was incredibly popular, and many pointed out it wasn’t a comprehensive list. This is true, as five is rarely the comprehensive list for just about anything unless you’re talking about elements or members of The Beatles. With that in mind, here are five more of the useless lessons that video games teach.
Crates are considered decoration in some cultures
Just like the barrels in the original list, crates are a favorite staple of game design. Play just about any game and you will find copious amounts of crates lying about. Sure, much like barrels they often contain valuables, but unlike barrels they are also often part of the local décor. (more…)
You take the good, you take the bad, you take it all and there you have the Dance Dance Castlevania Revolution. So, it isn’t technically a Dance Dance Revolution title, but instead Seatmania. Still, you have to admit the idea of dancing the night away to classically inspired, guitar-remixed versions of Alucard’s life soundtrack is pretty fun for any gaming fanatic. Well, maybe only the super geeky ones.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl just debuted in Japan, and for the sake of those wanting to remain spoiler free this article does not mention who is, and who is not included within that game. However, one of the known inclusions is of some third-party (non-Nintendo) characters. So the question is, what if Nintendo went further next time?
During all of Smash’s development time there have been rumors circulating about who would, and who would not be included. Who would you like to see? Simon Belmont from the Castlevania series? Mega Man? Master Chief from Halo? Assuming all the video game companies could get together for one super project, who would you like to see? Post your responses in the comments section below
This is a tough one, as it almost works as a game title. It completely sums up the theme of the game that there are some causes and some things in life that extend beyond the terms “good” and “evil.” Why does it only almost work? Because no piece of art (and if you choose such a pretentious title you are going for art) should ever be title its theme. How much boring would Heart of Darkness be if the title were Descent Into Madness? What if Star Wars were Trust Yourself and Use the Force? Yeah, it just doesn’t really work, even for great art.
