It seems difficult to imagine someone improving on the lovingly crafted Resident Evil films. After all, they take the continuity and character development of the games so seriously. However, it looks like Capcom might have pulled off the impossible–a good Resident Evilmovie!
Sonic Unleashed is the last glimmer of hope among many Sonic fans that the little blue Hedgehog might finally get one last decent console game. It’s been a while since Sonic Adventure 2, and even that was a step down from the original Sonic Adventure. The above trailer appears to be part of a semi-viral advertising campaign for the little blue fellow. It’s clever, but it might have worked better before other trailers were released revealing the game’s “twist.”
Another year and another Castlevania title for one of Nintendo’s portable devices. There was a time, not too long ago, when Castlevania releases were several years apart. Ever since the series shifted its main focus to Nintendo’s portables, however, the series seems to churn out at least one game a year. This can be both good and bad.
In what seems to be one of the longest waits in gaming history, word has finally come that a sequel to Beyond Good and Evil is coming. Not only that, but a trailer has come along with it.
Killzone 2 has certainly wowed gamers before. From the original “target” trailer to the later “actual” trailer, the game has provided plenty of eye candy. Of course, it has also provided plenty of controversy thanks to that “target” demo. However, it appears Killzone 2’s critics may finally have to eat their crow.
The original Gears of War is mostly a take it or leave it kind of game. With all the hype surrounding it, many were turned off by its less-than-revolutionary gameplay. Still, those people were obviously in the minority as the game sold a ton and helped cement the Xbox 360’s position ahead of the PS3 for a while to come (no such luck with the Wii).
Sure, this would be a great place to make some low-brow joke at the expense of the French, but this is Game With A Brain–not The New York Times! Anyway, this new commercial for Mario Kart Wii is actually pretty fun, regardless of where it hails from. You’ve got to hand it to Nintendo, they certainly have their advertising focus together better than Sony or Microsoft.
You may not remember Dark Castle, but it already spawned one classic sequel. Think of it as a medieval Prince of Persia, but in black and white and for the Mac. The update is nothing graphically to crow about, but then again it isn’t trying to be. It’s classic 2D gaming celebrating its 2Dness. As this pseudo-retro-revival continues, it’s interesting to see just how much life is left in the classic gaming setup. Return to Dark Castle likely won’t win any awards or set sales records, just like those games of yore. And just like them, it remembers that isn’t always the reason for making a great game.
There aren’t many games that can wow you simply by seeing them play, and having little to do with the sharpness of their graphics. Valkyria Chronicles, much like Okami before it, is simply poetry in motion. It’s a game that’s just beautiful to watch, regardless of how it plays. Now, let’s hope the gaemplay is there to back up the visuals.
Metal Gear Solid 4 is shaping up to be one of those games that define a console generation. If it should so manage, it would be quite a feat, as no Metal Gear game has really done so before (with perhaps Metal Gear Solid 2 coming closest). This newest trailer features a walkthrough of the game with narration explaining many of the new game mechanics. How does it look? Smooth and crisp, and like the console seller for the PS3 people expect it to be.
